Our Hours and Sessions
At Sunnynook Private Kindergarten, we are proud to offer high-quality preschool education in a caring, supportive environment for children aged 2–5 years.
We are open Monday to Friday, following the same school terms as our local primary schools here on the North Shore.
For busy families, we also run a special holiday programme during the term breaks — perfect for keeping little ones engaged, learning, and having fun while you work or take a well-earned break. We plan a fun-filled program each school holidays that children love to participate in with us.
Please note: Our kindergarten closes for three weeks over the Christmas and New Year period, and we also observe all New Zealand public holidays.
Our opening hours are:
🕗 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday

Choose the Right Hours
We recommend that children attend a minimum of two days per week for at least six hours. This allows our children to fully engage in the day’s learning, routines, and play, and helps them build strong relationships with their teachers and friends.
For our four year olds we offer a specialised Transition to School programme in the afternoons. This programme focuses on developing the skills and confidence children need for a smooth, positive start to primary school.
If your child is new to kindergarten, we understand that a full day might feel like a big step! We support our younger children to start with half-day sessions initially if you prefer.
We’ll work alongside your family to ease your child into their new routine at a pace that suits them.

What to bring each day
To keep their bodies fuelled and minds sharp, children bring a lunchbox each day packed with their own food for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
We encourage you to provide healthy, rubbish-free lunchboxes wherever possible. This supports not only your child’s wellbeing but also helps us care for our environment.
No need to worry about learning supplies!
We provide each child with a book bag, along with reading and writing books to use during their time at Sunnynook Private Kindergarten.
We also recommend that children wear clothing suitable for playing indoors and outdoors. It is best for children to wear clothing that can get messy, and that is suitable for physical play outdoors.
